Who We Are

Founded in 1937, the internationally acclaimed Wartburg Choir is an ensemble of great tradition and distinction. For three-quarters of a century, the choir has continued to develop a reputation for a cappella choral excellence.

The ensemble has received critical international acclaim for its versatility, performing some of the most challenging pieces ever written for choral ensembles. The choir frequently premieres original works by composers around the globe, most recently Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo.

During the past 20 years, the choir has performed in such prestigious concert halls and events as the White House, Kenndey Center, and National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.; Avery Fisher Hall (Lincoln Center) and Carnegie Hall in New York City; Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis; Chicago Symphony Center, two national conventions of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA); a North Central ACDA Convention; and throughout 38 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Outside the United States, the choir has performed in 15 European countries, three of the Canadian provinces, South Africa, and national and international music gatherings.

Choir members are selected by audition and represent nearly all academic disciplines on campus. The choir tours every year and internationally every three years.
